The church met for services at the Quaranta American Legion Post on Rte. 9 (the current location of Town fair Tire) in Shrewsbury for 7-1/2 years. It soon grew to a nucleus of fifteen families averaging 40-50 in attendance.

New Home

Pastor Page was bi-vocational for the first 6-1/2 years of the ministry. In September of 1997 the opportunity to purchase the former Fairlawn United Methodist Church building in Shrewsbury presented itself. After much prayer, research, and fund-raising, GBC took possession of the property at 10 Stanley Rd. on April 17, 1998. Services began there on May 3rd along with the hard task of updating the building to be ready for our use.

In a time when many churches have started and disbanded, on November 11, 2001 GBC celebrated its 11th Anniversary with much to be grateful for; a solid group of committed Christians, a Sanctuary to call its own, and a renewed sense of awe at our Great God and Savior Jesus Christ. With its own home now, Grace Baptist reached a real milestone. It was poised to be able to do many of the things it never could do in rented facilities.

On June 13, 2004, Pastor Bill Page left after 13 ½ years at GBC to pastor Terrill Road Baptist Church in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. He and his family left with the prayers, well wishes and blessings of the church. Grace Baptist Church took the opportunity to re-define its mission and vision, and to inspire the members to prepare for and help chart a course for the future with a new pastor.

Pastor Conway Campbell

A search committee was assembled and the task to find a new Pastor began. After diligently searching for a year, Committee chair Conway Campbell realized God’s call on his life for ministry. He resigned from the committee and submitted his name for consideration. After prayer the remaining committee and the church agreed, and he was called to be the second pastor of Grace Baptist Church.

Conway Campbell began as the Pastor on June 19, 2005. Pastor Conway is bi-vocational (works another job), but sees one his roles as diligently preaching God’s word. Preaching God’s word diligently will allow Grace to grow numerically, but more importantly spiritually.

Currently, we continue to see God work with the addition of new members on the leadership team, new members in general, and a sweet spirit of cooperation and working together. We are all anxious to see how much more God will use us to further His kingdom here on earth.
