II. WHERE IS HEAVEN?

a. Heaven’s current location

Mark 6:41 (NASB) 41 And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He blessed the food and broke the loaves and He kept giving them to the disciples to set before them; and He divided up the two fish among them all.

John 17:1 (NASB) 1 Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You,

Luke 24:50-51 (NASB) 50 And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. 51 While He was blessing them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven.

Acts 1:9 (NASB) 9 And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.

Acts 1:11 (NASB) 11 They also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.”

John 14:3 (NASB) 3 “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.

b. Heaven’s future location

Revelation 3:12 ‘He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write on him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name.

John 14:2 “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.

III. WHO WILL BE IN HEAVEN?

a. Our redeemer will be in heaven

Hebrews 9:24 (NASB) 24 For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; If I could be in heaven, and just peek through a keyhole every thousand years to see Jesus, it will be worth it.

b. Overcomers will be in heaven

c. Only believers will be in heaven

Revelation 20:15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

d. Children will be in heaven

1. Based on the goodness of God

Psalms 86:15 (NASB) 15 But You, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, Slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness and truth.

Psalms 145:9 (NASB) 9 The Lord is good to all, And His mercies are over all His works.

2. Based on the fairness of God

Psalms 19:1 (NASB) 1 The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.

Romans 1:20 (NASB) 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

Isaiah 7:16 (NASB) 16 “For before the boy will know enough to refuse evil and choose good, the land whose two kings you dread will be forsaken.

3. Based on the testimony of David

2 Samuel 12:21-23 (NASB) 21 Then his servants said to him, “What is this thing that you have done? While the child was alive, you fasted and wept; but when the child died, you arose and ate food.” 22 He said, “While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who knows, the Lord may be gracious to me, that the child may live.’ 23 “But now he has died; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.” The debt of sin is only charged against those who reject the payment God the Son has made and God the Father has accepted. All those who can’t believe owe no more to God. Those who can believe and do not [believe,] owe the full debt; that is why they cannot go to heaven. Their debt can never be paid by man. To refuse Christ’s payment is to seal one’s eternal destiny, but to be unable to receive it is to be covered by the payment already made and accepted by God

Isaiah 7:16 (NASB) 16 “For before the boy will know enough to refuse evil and choose good e. People we know will be in heaven

1. The lesson from Mark 9

2. The lesson from Luke 16

3. The lesson from Luke 24

IV. HOW DO I GET TO HEAVEN?

John 17:3 (NASB) 3 “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

2 Corinthians 5:8 (NASB) 8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.
