What Should Be the Christian’s Response to Gender Change? –Genesis 1:26-31
I. HOW DOES THE WORLD ADDRESS THE ISSUE OF GENDER?
“Gender refers to the attitudes, feelings, and behaviors that a given culture associates with a person’s biological sex” – American Psychological Association
II. HOW DOES THE BIBLE ADDRESS THE ISSUE OF GENDER?
a. God in his creation defined the sexes
b. God defined the sexes as male and female
Matthew 19:4-5 (NASB) And He answered and said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘for this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?
c. God’s describes His original creation as good
Genesis 1:31 (NASB) God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
d. God warned against gender distortions
Deuteronomy 22:5 (NASB) A woman shall not wear man’s clothing, nor shall a man put on a woman’s clothing; for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God.
III. WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF ISSUES WITH GENDER?
a. It is caused by a Satanic distortion
2 Corinthians 2:11 (NASB) so that no advantage would be taken of us by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his schemes.
John 10:10 (NASB) 10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;
1 Peter 5:8 (NASB) 8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
b. It is caused by willful ignorance
c. It is caused by God’s abandonment
IV. WHAT SHOULD THE CHRISTIANS’ RESPONSE TO GENDER CHANGE?
a. We should not be fearful
b. We are to love those who are struggling
1 John 3:11 (NASB) 11 For this is the message which you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another;
1 John 3:23 (NASB) 23 This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us.
1 John 4:7 (NASB) 7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
1 John 4:11 (NASB) 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NASB) 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
c. We are to share Christ with these individuals
2 Corinthians 4:4 (NASB) 4 in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
James 1:5 (NASB) 5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
