The Sounding of The First Four Trumpets – Revelation 8:3-13

I. THE PRELUDE TO THE TRUMPETS

Hebrews 8:5 (NASB) Moses was warned by God when he was about to erect the tabernacle; for, “See,” He says, “that you make all things according to the pattern which was shown you on the mountain.”

Revelation 6:9-11 (NASB) 9 When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained; 10 and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” 11 And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been, would be completed also.

II. THE FIRST TRUMPET – THE BURNING STORM

Matthew 24:15 (NASB) “Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand)

2 Thessalonians 2:4 (NASB) who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.

Matthew 24:21 (NASB) “For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will.

Matthew 24:22 (NASB) “Unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.

Isaiah 28:2 (NASB) Behold, the Lord has a strong and mighty agent; As a storm of hail, a tempest of destruction, like a storm of mighty overflowing waters, He has cast it down to the earth with His hand.

Job 38:22-23 (NASB) 22 “Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, or have you seen the storehouses of the hail, 23 Which I have reserved for the time of distress, For the day of war and battle?

Genesis 19:24 (NASB) Then the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven

Hebrews 12:29 (NASB) for our God is a consuming fire.

Leviticus 17:11 (NASB) ‘For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement.’

III. THE SECOND TRUMPET – THE BLOODY SEA

Hosea 4:3 (NASB) Therefore the land mourns, and everyone who lives in it languishes Along with the beasts of the field and the birds of the sky, and also the fish of the sea disappear.

Zephaniah 1:3 (NASB) “I will remove man and beast; I will remove the birds of the sky and the fish of the sea, And the ruins along with the wicked; And I will cut off man from the face of the earth,” declares the Lord.

IV. THE THIRD TRUMPET – THE BURNING STAR

Isaiah 40:26 (NASB) Lift up your eyes on high and see who has created these stars, The One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them all by name; Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power, not one of them is missing.

Job 9:7 Who commands the sun not to shine, and sets a seal upon the stars;

V. THE FOURTH TRUMPET – THE BLACKENED SKY

Amos 8:9 (NASB) “It will come about in that day,” declares the Lord God, “That I will make the sun go down at noon and make the earth dark in broad daylight.

Revelation 16:8-9 (NASB) 8 The fourth angel poured out his bowl upon the sun, and it was given to it to scorch men with fire. 9 Men were scorched with fierce heat; and they blasphemed the name of God who has the power over these plagues, and they did not repent so as to give Him glory.
