The Message of the Incarnation

John 5:39 (NASB) “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me;

I. THE INCARNATION REVEALED THE GOD-HEAD TO US

Romans 1:19-20 (NASB) 19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.  20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

Acts 14:17 (NASB) and yet He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good and gave you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.”

II. THE INCARNATION PROVIDED AN EXAMPLE FOR OUR LIVES

II. THE INCARNATION PURCHASED OUR SALVATION

III. THE INCARNATION FULFILLED THE DAVIDIC COVENANT

Luke 1:31-33 (NASB) 31 “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.  32 “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;  33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.”

a. The features of this covenant

  1. He will be king forever

2 Samuel 7:16  “Your house and your kingdom shall endure before Me forever; your throne shall be established forever.”‘”

Psalm 89:36  “His descendants shall endure forever And his throne as the sun before Me.

Jeremiah 33:17  “For thus says the LORD, ‘David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel;

2. His throne will be forever

Isaiah 9:6-7  For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.  (7)  There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this.

Luke 1:31-32  “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.  (32) “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;

3. He must be a human being

4. He must live forever

V. THE INCARNATION DESTROYED THE WORKS OF SATAN

1 John 1:8-10 (NASB) 8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.  9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

VI. THROUGH THE INCARNATION CHRIST BECAME OUR SYMPATHETIC HIGH PRIEST

Hebrews 4:15 (NASB) For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.

1 John 2:16 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

Hebrews 4:15 (NASB) For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses

Hebrews 2:18 (NASB) For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.

VII. THE IMPORTANCE OF THE INCARNATION

a. The authority of scripture depends on it

b. The Deity of Christ demands it

c. We are lost in our sin without it
