The Lukewarm Church: Laodicea – Revelation 3:14-22

I. THE CORRESPONDENT

a. He is the amen

Isaiah 65:16 (NASB) “Because he who is blessed in the earth Will be blessed by the God of truth; And he who swears in the earth Will swear by the God of truth; Because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hidden from My sight!

2 Corinthians 1:20 (NASB) For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are yes; therefore, also through Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us.

Hebrews 1:1-2 (NASB) 1 God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2 in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.

b. He is faithful and true

John 14:6 (NASB) Jesus said* to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

c. He is the first cause

John 1:3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities–all things have been created through Him and for Him.

Colossians 2:1 For I want you to know how great a struggle I have on your behalf and for those who are at Laodicea, and for all those who have not personally seen my face,

Colossians 4:15 Greet the brethren who are in Laodicea and also Nympha and the church that is in her house.

IV. THE CONDEMNATION

a. They had become lukewarm

Lukewarmness is the worst form of blasphemy – G. Campbell Morgan

John 6:37 and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.

b. They are self-deceived

V. THE COMMAND 

a. Get spiritual riches

Isaiah 55:1 (NASB) “Ho! Every one who thirsts, come to the waters; And you who have no money come, buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk Without money and without cost.

1 Peter 1:7 (NASB) so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

b. Get spiritual cleansing

c. Get spiritual sight

VI. THE COUNSEL

a. Repent before I discipline you

b. Open the door of the church
