 The Great Falling Away – 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4

I. THE PRELUDE TO THE DAY OF THE LORD

1 Thessalonians 5:1-2 (NASB) 1 Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. 2 For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.

Joel 2:1-3 Blow a trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm on My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, For the day of the LORD is coming; Surely it is near, (2) A day of darkness and gloom, A day of clouds and thick darkness. As the dawn is spread over the mountains, so there is a great and mighty people; There has never been anything like it, nor will there be again after it to the years of many generations. (3) A fire consumes before them and behind them a flame burns. The land is like the garden of Eden before them but a desolate wilderness behind them, and nothing at all escapes them.

Deuteronomy 19:15 on the evidence of two or three witnesses a matter shall be confirmed.

II. The Day of The Lord

a. The character of the antichrist

1. He opposes everything besides himself

2. He exalts himself above everything

Matthew 4:9 and he said to Him, “All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.”

3. He will try to be God

b. The power behind the antichrist

1. Satan is a deceiver

2. Satan knows his time is short
