The Fifth and Sixth Seals (Revelation 6:9-17)

The Fifth and Sixth Seals – Revelation 6:9-17

a. They suffered religious persecution

Revelation 20:4 Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

Leviticus 4:30 (NASB) ‘The priest shall take some of its blood with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering; and all the rest of its blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar.

b. They pray for Godly retribution

Deuteronomy 32:35 (NASB) ‘Vengeance is Mine, and retribution, in due time their foot will slip; For the day of their calamity is near, And the impending things are hastening upon them.’

Deuteronomy 32:41 (NASB) If I sharpen My flashing sword, And My hand takes hold on justice, I will render vengeance on My adversaries, And I will repay those who hate Me.

Deuteronomy 32:43 (NASB) “Rejoice, O nations, with His people; For He will avenge the blood of His servants, and will render vengeance on His adversaries, and will atone for His land and His people.”

Micah 5:15 (NASB) “And I will execute vengeance in anger and wrath on the nations which have not obeyed.”

Isaiah 63:4 (NASB) “For the day of vengeance was in My heart, And My year of redemption has come.

Romans 12:19 (NASB) Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.

c. The promise they receive from God

2 Corinthians 5:8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.

Philippians 1:21-23 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose. But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better;

a. They witness natural phenomena

Luke 21:11 (NASB) and there will be great earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.

b. They all verbalize their fear at the phenomena

Isaiah 2:19 (NASB) Men will go into caves of the rocks and into holes of the ground Before the terror of the Lord And the splendor of His majesty, When He arises to make the earth tremble.

2 Thessalonians 2:8-11 (NASB) 8 Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; 9 that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, 10 and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. 11 For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false,

c. They surmise the result of the phenomena
