THE ENDING OF ALL TIME – DANIEL 12:1-13

I. THE TRIBULATION THAT IS TO COME

a. The prince of this time

Revelation 12:7 (NASB) 7 And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels waged war,

Revelation 12:9 (NASB) 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

Revelation 12:12 (NASB) 12 “For this reason, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them. Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has only a short time.”

b. The distress of this time

Deuteronomy 4:30 (NASB) 30 “When you are in distress and all these things have come upon you, in the latter days you will return to the Lord your God and listen to His voice.

Jeremiah 30:7 (NASB) 7 ‘Alas! for that day is great, There is none like it; And it is the time of Jacob’s distress, But he will be saved from it.

Joel 2:2 (NASB) 2 A day of darkness and gloom, A day of clouds and thick darkness. As the dawn is spread over the mountains, So there is a great and mighty people; There has never been anything like it, Nor will there be again after it To the years of many generations.

Matthew 24:21 (NASB) 21 “For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will.

II. THE EVENTS DURING AND AFTER THE TRIBULATION

a. The saved will be rescued

Matthew 24:22 (NASB) 22 “Unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.

Matthew 24:40-41 (NASB) 40 “Then there will be two men in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. 41 “Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one will be left.

b. The dead who are raised

Acts 24:15 (NASB) 15 having a hope in God, which these men cherish themselves, that there shall certainly be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked.

John 5:29 (NASB) 29 and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.

Hebrews 11:35 (NASB) 35 Women received back their dead by resurrection; and others were tortured, not accepting their release, so that they might obtain a better resurrection;

Revelation 20:4 (NASB) 4 Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (NASB) 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.

Revelation 20:4 (NASB) 4 Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

Revelation 20:5 (NASB) 5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection.

Revelation 20:7 (NASB) 7 When the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison,

Revelation 20:12 (NASB) 12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds.

c. The believers who are rewarded

1. Those with insight

Daniel 9:22 (NASB) 22 He gave me instruction and talked with me and said, “O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you insight with understanding.

Daniel 11:33 (NASB) 33 “Those who have insight among the people will give understanding to the many; yet they will fall by sword and by flame, by captivity and by plunder for many days.

Ezekiel 8:2 (NASB) 2 Then I looked, and behold, a likeness as the appearance of a man; from His loins and downward there was the appearance of fire, and from His loins and upward the appearance of brightness, like the appearance of glowing metal.

2. Those who win souls

Proverbs 11:30 (NASB) 30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who is wise wins souls.

d. The preservation of this prophecy

Daniel 10:14 (NASB) 14 “Now I have come to give you an understanding of what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision pertains to the days yet future.”

e. The knowledge that will be sought

2 Chronicles 16:9 (NASB) 9 “For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His. You have acted foolishly in this. Indeed, from now on you will surely have wars.”

Jeremiah 5:1 (NASB) 1 “Roam to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, And look now and take note. And seek in her open squares, If you can find a man, If there is one who does justice, who seeks truth, Then I will pardon her.

Zechariah 4:10 (NASB) 10 “For who has despised the day of small things? But these seven will be glad when they see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel—these are the eyes of the Lord which range to and fro throughout the earth.”

Amos 9:12 (NASB) 12 That they may possess the remnant of Edom And all the nations who are called by My name,” Declares the Lord who does this.

III. THE CHRONOLOGY THAT IS TO BE UNDERSTOOD

a. The angels question and the answer

Daniel 10:4 (NASB) 4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, while I was by the bank of the great river, that is, the Tigris,

Daniel 10:5-6 (NASB) 5 I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, there was a certain man dressed in linen, whose waist was girded with a belt of pure gold of Uphaz. 6 His body also was like beryl, his face had the appearance of lightning, his eyes were like flaming torches, his arms and feet like the gleam of polished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a tumult.

1 Timothy 6:16 (NASB) 16 who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.

Daniel 7:25 (NASB) 25 ‘He will speak out against the Most High and wear down the saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make alterations in times and in law; and they will be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time.

b. Daniel’s question and the answer

Hosea 5:15 (NASB) 15 I will go away and return to My place Until they acknowledge their guilt and seek My face; In their affliction they will earnestly seek Me.

Revelation 7:9 (NASB) 9 After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands;

Revelation 16:8-9 (NASB) 8 The fourth angel poured out his bowl upon the sun, and it was given to it to scorch men with fire. 9 Men were scorched with fierce heat; and they blasphemed the name of God who has the power over these plagues, and they did not repent so as to give Him glory.

Matthew 24:29-30 (NASB) 29 “But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened , and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 “And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory.
