The Christians Relationship to The Word – 1 Peter 1:22-2:3

I. GOD’S WORD IS INFALLIBLE AND GIVES US TRUTH

John 17:17 “Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.

Psalm 119:160 The sum of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting.

Genesis 3:1-3 “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?” (2) The woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; (3) but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.'”

2 Peter 1:21 (NASB) 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God

II. GOD’S WORD IS IMPERISHABLE AND GIVES US LIFE

a. The word is the basis for loving each other

1 John 3:14 (NASB) 14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death.

b. The word is the basis for our second birth

c. The word of God will last forever

III. GOD’S WORD IS INDISPENSABLE AND GIVES US GROWTH

a. We are to put away what is evil

b. We are to long for that which is pure
