1 Corinthians 12:4-7 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. (5) And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. (6) There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. (7) But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
I. COMMON MISUSES OF SPIRITUAL GIFTS
a. You can ignore your gift
b. You can be blind to your gift
c. You can project your gift on others
2 Timothy 4:5 But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
Luke 6:36 “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

d. You can minimize your gifts importance
1 Timothy 4:14 Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed on you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery.
e. You can overestimate your gifts importance
Ephesians 4:16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.
f. You can practice gift gravitation
g. You can neglect your God given responsibilities
2 Corinthians 11:13-15 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. (14) No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. (15) Therefore, it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds.
Exodus 7:11-13 Then Pharaoh also called for the wise men and the sorcerers, and they also, the magicians of Egypt, did the same with their secret arts. (12) For each one threw down his staff and they turned into serpents. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs. (13) Yet Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had said.
Exodus 7:22 But the magicians of Egypt did the same with their secret arts; and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had said.
Exodus 8:7 The magicians did the same with their secret arts, making frogs come up on the land of Egypt.
Acts 20:29-30 “I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; (30) and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.
Matthew 7:22-23 “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ (23) “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’
Matthew 24:24 “For false Christ’s and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.
II. COMMON ABUSES OF SPIRITUAL GIFTS
1 Corinthians 14:12 So also you, since you are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek to abound for the edification of the church.
a. We can grieve the Holy Spirit
Ephesians 4:30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
1 John 1:7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
b. You can quench the Holy Spirit
1 Thessalonians 5:19 Do not quench the Spirit;
c. You can refuse to walk by the Spirit
Galatians 5:16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.
John 15:5 “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.
Colossians 2:6 Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,
d. You can refuse to sow by the Spirit
Galatians 6:8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
Joh 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
Romans 8:6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,
