His Humanity (Hebrews 2:5-18)

I. CHRIST’S SOVEREIGNTY AS A MAN

a. Man’s original destiny

b. Man’s lost destiny

c. Man’s recovered destiny

Mark 11:2-4; 7 And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him.

4 And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him.

7 And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him.

Matthew 17:27 “However, so that we do not offend them, go to the sea and throw in a hook, and take the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth, you will find a shekel. Take that and give it to them for you and Me.”

Luke 22:34 And He said, “I say to you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me.”

II. CHRIST’S SUFFERING AS A MAN

a. Jesus died as our substitute

Acts 2:23 this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death.

  1. It was a suffering death
  2. It was an all encompassing death

1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

       3.It was a gracious death

b. Jesus became the author of our salvation

John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die.

 III. CHRIST’S SYMPATHY AS A MAN

a. He sympathizes because we are related to Him

2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,

John 20:17 “Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.'”

John 20:17 “Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.'”

b. He sympathizes because we are rescued by Him

Philippians 1:21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

c. He sympathizes because we are reconciled through Him

Genesis 12:3 And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

Galatians 3:29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise.
