God’s will for His Children’s Maturity – Hebrews 5:11-14

Psalms 92:12 (NASB) The righteous man will flourish like the palm tree, He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

Ephesians 4:15 (NASB) but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,

1 Peter 2:2 (NASB) like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation,

2 Peter 3:18 (NASB) but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

1 Corinthians 3:2 (NASB) I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Indeed, even now you are not yet able,

I. THE PROBLEMS CAUSED BY A LACK OF SPIRITUAL MATURITY

a. They were dull of hearing

b. They were delayed in teaching

James 3:1 Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment.

Romans 12:6-7 Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; (7) if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching;

c. They were deficient in their diet

II.  THE PRACTICE THAT LEADS TO SPIRITUAL MATURITY

a. To mature spiritually we need to partake

c. To mature spiritually we need to perceive

Application

1. Do you have ears to hear God’s truth?

James 1:22 (NASB) 22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.

James 1:21 Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.

Psalms 24:3-4 Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? And who may stand in His holy place? (4) He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood And has not sworn deceitfully.
